PROFILE: PUPPETRY

Ria Blaas

Upper Loveland Puppets

Upper Loveland Puppets has been performing throughout New England at schools, fairs, resorts, daycares and senior centers for over 15 years, presenting their cast of characters to audiences young and old. Their most recent production is “The Little Prince” by Antoine de St. Exupéry, a timeless fable telling the story of a little prince from a small planet visiting the earth.

Except for its latest production, Upper Loveland Puppets has created its own stories and puppets. 5 marionette performances are available. The marionettes vary in size from 1 to 4 feet tall.

The performances are:

  • “Belinda and her Magic Feet”
  • “Isabelle and the Amazon”
  • “The Terrible Pignap”
  • “A Day for a Daisy”
  • “A Christmas Story”

Next to the string puppets there is a traditional European style hand puppet theater, appropriate for outdoor performances and specializing in Punch and Judy stories. Updated and reinvented the Punch and Judy stories have become a favorite among the children and they assure, as most Upper Loveland performances do, a lively interaction with the audience. Fun for all ages!

Creator and sculptor/puppeteer Ria Blaas teaches residencies in puppetry, using her own puppet crew to introduce the students into the Art of Puppetry and working towards the children’s own performance.
